Hiking in Nepal is the half-day-to-one-day cousin of trekking — short walks on well-marked trails that take you out of the cities, into hill villages, monasteries, and viewpoints with sweeping Himalayan panoramas, but back to a hotel bed by evening.
Around Kathmandu Valley, hikes through Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, the Champadevi ridge, Nagarkot, and Chisapani fit neatly into a day. From Pokhara, the lakeshore-to-Sarangkot climb at dawn delivers one of the country's most photographed sunrise views over the Annapurnas.
These hikes are perfect if you have limited time, are traveling with kids, or want to acclimatise before a longer trek. No permits, no guide required, no altitude risk — just a packed lunch, sturdy shoes, and a head start before the midday sun.

For most valley hikes (Shivapuri, Nagarkot loops, Sarangkot), normal fitness is enough — if you can walk 3–5 hours at a relaxed pace with some uphill, you're fine. Champadevi and Phulchowki are steeper and longer (6–8 hours) — a bit of training helps but is not essential.
