Hiking in Nepal is the half-day-to-one-day cousin of trekking — short walks on well-marked trails that take you out of the cities, into hill villages, monasteries, and viewpoints with sweeping Himalayan panoramas, but back to a hotel bed by evening.
Around Kathmandu Valley, hikes through Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, the Champadevi ridge, Nagarkot, and Chisapani fit neatly into a day. From Pokhara, the lakeshore-to-Sarangkot climb at dawn delivers one of the country's most photographed sunrise views over the Annapurnas.
These hikes are perfect if you have limited time, are traveling with kids, or want to acclimatise before a longer trek. No permits, no guide required, no altitude risk — just a packed lunch, sturdy shoes, and a head start before the midday sun.

Hike to Suryachaur, a peaceful hilltop near the northern edge of the Kathmandu Valley, offering open views of the surrounding hills and mountains. It provides a quiet retreat and a pleasant day hike experience.

Ascend to the "White House Danda" viewpoint near Nagarkot, a serene spot known for its uninterrupted sunrise views over the Himalayas. It’s a short, rewarding hike in a peaceful setting.

A short trip from Kathmandu leads to Nagarkot, a hill station famous for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset views over the entire Himalayan range, including Mount Everest. The easy trails through local villages and terraced fields offer a perfect escape for stunning mountain photography.

Trek through

Hike up the lush hill to the brilliant white World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa) overlooking Phewa Lake and Pokhara Valley. The trail offers a gentle climb and provides unmatched panoramic views of the lake, city, and the Annapurna mountains.

Trek through charming Gurung villages to Dhampus, a traditional settlement offering incredible, close-up views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) mountain. This easy hike showcases the best of Nepal’s rural life and mountain scenery.

Explore the remote and authentic Gurung village of Sikles, nestled in a hidden valley with stunning views of the Annapurna range. This off-the-beaten-path trek offers genuine cultural experiences and untouched natural beauty.

Enjoy a tranquil hike around Begnas Lake, a less crowded alternative to Phewa Lake, offering peaceful views of rural life and fishing villages. It’s a relaxing walk through lush landscapes and quiet trails.

Hike up to Pumdikot viewpoint near Pokhara, home to a large Shiva statue and offering a stunning panorama of Phewa Lake, Pokhara city, and the full Annapurna range. It's a rewarding climb for sunrise or sunset views.
Hikes in the mid-hills (1,500–2,500m) work nearly year-round.
A guide who knows the trail, the history, and the best photo spots.
Hotel pickup, drive to the trail start, pickup from the endpoint.
Trail lunch and water — often a Nepali-style box with rice, curry, and fruit.
Shivapuri Nagarjun NP, Phulchowki area entry, etc. — included where applicable.
Loaned for the day if you ask in advance.
For most valley hikes (Shivapuri, Nagarkot loops, Sarangkot), normal fitness is enough — if you can walk 3–5 hours at a relaxed pace with some uphill, you're fine. Champadevi and Phulchowki are steeper and longer (6–8 hours) — a bit of training helps but is not essential.
